Hi Y’all! Earlier this week I was shopping at my favorite store, Big Lots, and I came across another interesting item. I found chips made of beans. The chips were a new take on the typical tortilla chip. Instead of using flour or corn, Beanitos uses beans. The nutritional facts stated that they were high in fiber, antioxidents, and protein. I thought it was interesting so it was worth the two bucks to try. I brought the chips home this weekend for my family to try. I didn’t tell them that they were made of beans or that anything was different and surprisingly they really liked them. I told them the chips were made of beans and they said that they would have never guessed it. I tried the chips for myself and they were really good. I could tell they were a little different than the “normal” tortilla chip, but with some salsa and queso, you couldn’t tell a difference.
Hey y’all! This past weekend I tried a new restaurant that popped up in Prairieville. Agave Blue is advertised as a tequila and taco bar. I don’t really care so much for the tequila as I do the tacos. If a restaurant is specializing in tacos I have to try it. My family and one of my close friends decided to go out for dinner there and see if it was any good. I have to say it was great and both my parents and my friend really loved it too. To start off our meal we were given the standard complimentary chips and salsa. We ordered queso too because who doesn’t love queso. The salsa was fresh, delicious and very spicy. Even my dad thought it was spicy and that’s saying something. I ordered the beef tacos with beans and the beans were the closest you could get to authentic. Overall, this restaurant was amazing with good food and a good atmosphere.
Hi Y’all! I don’t know if any of y’all have even eaten from a food truck, but if you haven’t it is a must. This past weekend I went to the Flea Market of Louisiana in Prairieville, La and they had a taco truck there. To say the least, I was very excited. The people running the truck were very friendly and pretty funny. I ordered two beef tacos and they were served minutes later, so service was great too. When I got my tacos I was immediately excited because these tacos are as close to authentic as I could get without going south of the border. They were small and served in a soft shell. The meat wasn’t ground beef like you would normally expect from American tacos, but it was finely chopped beef. To top off it off there was just a little bit of white onions, lime, and cilantro. They were incredible! If you ever see a Mexican food truck of any kind I would highly suggest trying it out. Most of the time the people that are running the truck grew up eating and cooking the food they are serving you so you will get a little taste of their culture.
Hi Y’all! To celebrate making it halfway through the week I decided to have a taco night Wednesday for me and my friends. I went to Rouse’s and got everything a college kid can afford for a taco night: refried beans, taco shells, Spanish rice, taco toppings, chips, avocados for guacamole, salsa and my personal favorite Jarritos soda. I cooked everything up and I have to admit I did use a taco seasoning packet because this girl can afford all the authentic spices. (Hopefully one day!) I added a little flair to the taco meat by adding some cooked down onions and bell peppers. If I do say so myself, I think all the food came out pretty good.
Yes, I love tacos and Mexican food, but I honestly really like cooking for my friends. We call it family night. We all get together and hang out and eat a big meal. I love that food can bring people together and I especially love that this time is was Mexican food.
Hi Y’all! This week I visited a favorite, local restaurant of mine, Las Palmas. I decided to take a little break from college this weekend and head home to see my parents. I live in the pretty small town of Prairieville, LA. There isn’t many options when it comes to going out to eat, especially for Mexican food. There are a few local restaurants, but Las Palmas has been a long time favorite for me and my family. Granted, I used to get chicken fingers and fries because I didn’t like Mexican food, but that has now changed. Last night I ordered my favorite dish, Tacos! I have to say they were pretty good. Nothing overly special or exciting, but just good ole’ tacos. Even though I do love tacos, I have to say one of my favorite parts of going out to eat at most Mexican restaurant is the free chips and salsa and Las Palmas knows what they are doing with their salsa. Overall, this is a classic Mexican restaurant that will continue to serve out good food again and again.
